“Tocando Portugal” multimedia recital is the name of the concert created and performed by the “Rumos Ensemble”. Innovative and ambitious, this project presents a selection of traditional music from ten regions of Portugal, arranged for violin, clarinet and piano trio; the projection of original footage from each region, evoking the beauty, natural richness and architecture of our country; statements of prominent personalities, regional, national and international, native to each region, including António Victorino d’Almeida, Graça Morais, Janita Salomé, Carlos Alberto Moniz, Rosa Mota, Lídia Jorge or João Malheiro. The pertinence and uniqueness of this recital comes not only from its stylistic and artistic crossover that is it’s foundation, but also from the ambition of the three classical musicians with international careers spread over four continents, looking at the traditional Portuguese music patrimony with a renewed energy, in a modern way, but still accessible to all kinds of public. As well as the variety and eclectic character of the arrangements, the importance of the musical choices, rigour, technical and artistic precision of the artists of this group, its multimedia dimension features in an appealing way, scenic countryside, cities, picturesque neighbourhoods, monuments, dances, habits and people, enriching and reinforcing the memories and collective identity of our people whose history blends with the places where they live.
As the name suggests, “Rumos Ensemble” will take Portugal to the world.

“I had the privilege of attending the Cape Town performance on Monday, 26 October 2015 of the Rumos Ensemble. To say that it was an excellent, uplifting and most professional performance would be a gross understatement! The flawless music flowed intimately and perfectly with the excellent visuals.
The dramatic visuals are particularly special as these were not a promotional exercise often seen on tourism promotional material, the effect however is the same, if not better. In reality, the visuals captured the depth and intimacy of the different regions of Portugal in such a way that one saw the “soul” of each particular region. The beautiful live music created a much needed additional dimension that rounded off the whole performance perfectly.
I cannot thank the Consul General of Portugal in Cape Town, Catarina Arruda for her efforts in bringing out Rumos. I hope that they will be back so that those that missed it this time can ensure that attend a performance next time..”
